Dental implants

If you have lost one or more teeth, you know that simple things such as smiling, eating and laughing become less enjoyable. Suddenly, foods you used to love are hard to chew and your confidence is lowered each time you smile. If you are needing a tooth restoration, dental implants could be a great option for you! Dental implants are one of the most durable and long-lasting options for replacing a missing tooth. Dental implants are made to look, function and feel like a natural tooth. The Benefits

One reason it is important to replace a missing tooth is because over time you begin to experience jaw bone loss where the tooth is missing. Also, other teeth can begin to shift out of place when a tooth is gone. When jaw bone loss occurs, it can affect the shape of your jaw and change the look of your face. By replacing a missing tooth, you are doing a lot for the health of your smile! In addition to single implants, dental bridges and dentures are also options for replacing missing teeth with the help of dental implants.

The Implant Process

The first step in the implant process is ensuring that your jaw bone is strong enough to support the dental implant. If not, treatment can be scheduled to prepare your jaw bone for the implant. The main steps of the implant process are placing the abutment, post and dental crown. Each of these steps are completed at separate appointments so that the area has time to heal in-between each visit.

The abutment replaces the root of the tooth and forms a secure foundation for the implant. The post is placed on top of the abutment where the dental crown will be secured. The dental crown is the final step and is custom-made to fit your smile. The crown is also color-matched so that it blends in naturally with the surrounding teeth. At the final fitting, your permanent crown will be tested for function and bite. Any adjustments that are needed will be made. The entire implant process from start to finish typically takes at least a few months. Although it takes some time to complete, the end result is well worth the wait!
